Fake Intuit Emails that Link to Compromised Sites, Discovered

Not many people are very familiar with Intuit. But those who know about the company or have dealt with them can vouch for their reliability and reputation. It's actually a company that develops tax preparation and other financial software mainly targeted for small businesses.

Unfortunately, some cyber criminals are hopping on this by unleashing a scam based entirely on company's untarnished name. Spyware Sucks recently posted a screenshot of an email message making the rounds that have been made to look like they were sent by Intuit.

The emails claim that Intuit has partnered up with the IRS, before informing that the recipient's SSS number doesn't match his or her name.

We have discovered, that your name and/or Social Security Number, that we have on your account does not correspond to the information provided by the IRS. In order to verify your account, please enter the site [link].

As expected, there's a link inserted towards the end of the email. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't lead to Intuit's website so you can "verify your account." Instead, it leads to a Denmark-based website that's advertising engineering services.

There's a high probability that this site has been compromised and tweaked to serve malware or other malicious hacks, so remember the most important thing when it comes to links in email messages: don't click on them. Just hit delete and go your merry way.
