DeSean Jackson is Going to be the Next Terrell Owens

DeSean Jackson probably would not mind being a lot like Terrell Owens. The career Owens had is legendary, but his struggles off the field personally and financially have tarnished his image severely. If Jackson is not careful he may find himself headed down the exact same road.

Both of these guys are crazy talents; that goes without saying. Jackson is more of a speed demon and a deep threat while TO was an all-around physical beast. In their first four years, Jackson had 700 more yards, but TO scored nine more TDs (not counting Jackson’s four on punt returns).

While it would be nice if the comparisons would end there (at least for Jackson’s sake) it does not appear that they do. Jackson had some behavioral issues last season, and while they are not quite in the same class as TO (yet) they are still a bad omen.

A lot of his financial decisions have been questionable to say the least, enough so that there were rumors last season that he was already broke. The $25,000 he threw down for the party to celebrate founding his own record label is a perfect example.While I’m sure that is nothing compared to what has been spent at such parties, it’s a pretty good chunk of his salary at that time ($500,000 range).

Concern has been expressed that his focus will not be on football enough—and where it needs to be (gee, TO was never distracted, was he?). He says not to worry because even though he is the CEO of Jacpot Records the label is something he’s doing for his friends from back in the day.

Valiant notion DeSean, but haven’t you heard all the stories from guys who try to spread the wealth too much and run out of it while they are still playing?

The company does have an album coming out in July, right before training camp, and yes, Jackson will be rapping on the album (because every athlete is a rapper; just ask Chris Johnson, aka CJ2K).
