The Sad Tale of Terrell Owens Takes a Turn for the Worse

Kids, take heed and learn a lesson from the plight that has become the once proud wide receiver Terrell Owens.

On Tuesday the Allen Wranglers of the IFL decided they had enough of the 37-year old and cut him from the team. If it wasn’t bad enough that he refused to travel to a pair of away game with the playoffs on the line, he skipped out on a charity function at a children’s hospital as well.

Come on TO! Skipping out on the kids? The kids!

The fact that he was on the team in the first place was a bit of a surprise. No one had expected that Owens would be willing to play anywhere other than the NFL, let alone a lesser indoor league. However, when you check out the sweetheart deal they gave him it made sense.

He needed to prove that he could still play so he needed to go somewhere. The team did not require him to play in away games and even gave him an ownership stake in the team bringing his compensation package somewhere in the range of $250,000 and $500,000.

That may be peanuts to most NFL players, but when you consider that the majority of IFL players make only $250 a game what the Wranglers were willing to do for TO was insane.

TO has been in the news this summer complaining about financial troubles. At one time he claimed he was broke, and had blown the $80 million he had made in the NFL. He later tried to say that he was not broke, but was not paying child support for his children.

The man is a talent. Over the span of his career he has caught 1078 balls (sixth all-time) for 15,934 yards (second all-time) and 156 touchdowns (fourth all-time). You can’t do that without having some serious skills on your side.

Now just think what the man could have done if he didn’t wreak havoc everywhere he went?

TO will likely come out with some sort of statement in the next day or so in an attempt to make it seem like it was all a misunderstanding on the part of the Wranglers; it had nothing to do with him of course.

Just like the mess with the 49ers, Eagles, and Cowboys; there wasn’t any big blow up in Buffalo or Cincinnati, but neither team cared to bring him back after one season either.

Maybe he can catch on with the new USFL or the UFL (if they ever play again).
