New Facebook Scam Promises Free Oakleys, Will Give You Spam Instead

Cybercriminals are milking Facebook and the social network’s popularity for all it’s worth–all for their benefit and to the great inconvenience and risk of the affected users. People are still reeling from the recent “I Just Got My Hillbilly Name!” scam and now a new one is already in circulation: the Free Oakleys scam.

This one is just as fake and spammy as all the other scams on Facebook, offering a free pair of Oakleys to users who click on the link.

The link to the scam’s page is accompanied by text which reads: “Get a Free Pair of Oakleys! (limited time only).” Another variation of the text says: “To celebrate the Summer, Oakley is giving away free shades to all facebook users!!”

Facebook Oakley Scam

After clicking on the link, users are directed to a page which alerts them that there are only a limited number of Oakleys left to be given away. Users are then encouraged to share the page with friends, like it, and complete six “reward offers” to get the sunglasses. These offers will most likely cost the users money and will also give the scammers and marketers access to their personal information.

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: if it sounds too good to be true, then it’s probably a scam. If you feel like something fishy is going on, then leave the page, report it to Facebook, and alert your friends to the scam.
