French Gaming Site Hit with ZeuS Crimeware–Is Your Site Safe?
It pays to be wary of most sites that you're visiting. If the webmasters don't seem to be paying much attention to security, then you're better off avoiding the site altogether.
Poor web security makes the site an easy target for cybercriminals to remotely exploit. This is done by injecting malicious code and malware into exploitable and misconfigured web applications, like the WordPress blogging platform.
Hundreds of thousands of sites remain susceptible to these types of attacks, and the end users of these sites end up paying for it as a result. The most recent site that was hit with the ZeuS crimeware is French gaming site Assassinscreedfrance.fr. Once the system is infected, the ZeuS crimeware then proceeds to steal personal data remotely.
Researchers from Avast reveal that Assassinscreedfrance has been unknowingly serving ZeuS to its site visitors for a period of 8 weeks. The site is only one out of 1,841 legitimate web sites that are serving the same variant of ZeuS.
Perform regular security checks on your servers to keep your websites safe. And if you're using WordPress, make sure to keep the platform and plugins updated.
