I have never been interested in watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics. It’s all pomp and circumstance, flag waving, hand waving, and something that is supposed to be entertainment. I’m totally cool with catching the highlights of them on Sportscenter.
However, this summer when the Games kickoff in London on July 27 I will have to watch.
Why? They have got the king of cool involved; the man of men; the guy that makes the most interesting man in the world sweat. He’s the kind of guy that all guys want to be, slick, suave, handsome, and most importantly he gets all the girls.
I’m talking about James Bond baby!
Word has it that the Queen herself asked Daniel Craig if he would be a part of the opening ceremony this summer. When the Queen asks you to do anything can you really say no?
The word right now is that Bond will get his orders from the Queen to open the Summer Games and will end up parachuting into the stadium for the short film known as The Arrival.
It is not unprecedented for the host country to pull out all the stops when it comes to its celebrity power. Both Beijing (2008) and Athens (2004) Games used national celebrities in their closing ceremonies. In Sydney, the star wattage was on display with Paul Hogan, Kylie Minogue, Midnight Oil, Men at Work, Savage Garden, and INXS.
But London has James Bond.
(I'm sure his inclusion has nothing to do with the latest Bond movie, Skyfall, coming out November 9.)
