Diablo III Launching Without PVP

After several years of waiting and hoping, it seems like the boys over at Blizzard are finally in the final stretch of finishing Diablo III. They're still promising a release date sometime in the second half of this year but the deadline comes with some unsettling news on the side.

To ensure the game is not delayed again, Blizzard has claimed that they will not be releasing the game with any sort of PVP content. Game director Jay Wilson stated on the official Diablo site that Diablo III's "PvP game and systems aren’t yet living up to our standards".

The news isn't all bad, seeing as the Diablo series has always had an amusing and time consuming campaign and Blizzard has mentioned that they will, of course, release the PVP as a patch at a later date. 

After a lot of consideration and discussion, we ultimately felt that delaying the whole game purely for PvP would just be punishing to everyone who’s waiting to enjoy the campaign and core solo/co-op content, all of which is just about complete  - Jay Wilson (Game Director)

Wilson does go on to mention that when the PVP is finished, it will have "multiple arena maps, with themed locations and layouts, PvP-centric achievements, and a matchmaking system that will help you and your team get into fairly matched games quickly and easily," as well as "a personal progression system that will reward you for successfully bashing in the other team’s skulls."
